I am beyond excited to share my interview with Shelia Powell.
Not only is she amazingly talented, she also had the distinct honor of being the ONLY psychic featured on an episode of Ghost Adventures.
Shelia is my “go-to” when I need answers from the Other Side! And she is credited for it my published works 🙂
Not only do we get to meet her through the interview – she is giving away a FREE 30 minute psychic reading to a lucky follower. We will be taking comments all week in the drawing and we will announce the winner next Monday.
If you listened to my show with Liz this week, you’ll remember that I credited this amazing woman for changing my entire outlook on life. If you missed it – you can find The Liz McMullen Show Episode 37: Yvonne Heidt right HERE.
On to the interview!
What kind of Psychic gifts do you have?
I am first an foremost an Empath. I pick up people’s (and animals) thoughts, feelings, and EMOTIONS simply by falling into their energy. Most of the time without trying. I can do this at rapid speed, so may seem a bit schizophrenic if you make a trip to Wal-Mart with me! I will BE the happy little girl that has a new toy, then sad like the poor woman that got beat up by her drunk boyfriend, then angry like the store manager. I really have to remember to protect before shopping trips!
I am also clairvoyant, clairaudient, clairgustant, and clairscent (which means I see, hear, taste and smell Spirit.) I do psychometry which is to handle an object or touch an area – and perceive through the palms of one’s hands information about the article or its owner or history. I can take on the illness of others, and have flat-lined by taking on too much of my daughters illness before! Literally flat-lined! I had to be shocked back 3 times!
Finally, I have a good healthy dose of Clair-knowshitedness. My kids came up with that one because they say that I just know shit. And they are right
Oh and I talk to dead people…
When did your gifts first appear?
I first remember talking to the other side when I was 4. It was not a big deal. My dads family could do it…so, why not? Also, I just always knew things and would tell my mom and daddy and anyone else that would listen which leads to the next question…
How did your parent’s react?
My dad was pretty much ok with what I did. He was used to it because of his Indian lineage. My mom, however, not so much! My mom was quieter than my dad and I. She didn’t want attention called to us for any reason. So her reaction was “SHHHHHH….don’t do that! Don’t say that! Don’t see that! Don’t be that!” So I tried not to, but it was hard. I had Spirit around me constantly. I saw things, heard things, knew things. Finally, I knew that I just had to learn to work with my gifts in a quiet way. So my Aunts (My dad’s 2 sisters) helped me. They pretty much saved my sanity! They taught me to ground and protect and to use my gifts to help others. They also taught me I wasn’t crazy! My mom just sort of pretended it wasn’t there.
Mom was like that until about a year after her mom (Mimmaw) passed away. I was an adult and had kids of my own. Mimmaw came to me to let me know exactly how she had passed, as she was alone when she died. She needed my mom and her sister to know that she felt no pain, just like a splash of ice water down her back and then beauty. I was afraid to tell my mom so my Mimmaw rang my phone at exactly 11:33 every night for a year, no matter where I was or what number I was at – until I called and told mom and her sister. After that, mom came around a bit. She accepted that I knew things. It still flustered her when I knew when someone was going to die, be in an accident, or get pregnant, but at least she believed!
Tell me about the Awesome Aunties.
Hmmmmm… my Aunties… They were wonderful, wise, accepting, nonjudgmental, and funny women who lived by the signs of the earth. They saved my sanity and perhaps my life because of it! It is hard to be a full on, raging Empath during puberty. You have your own crazy emotions to deal with and then you pick up everyone else’s. The doctors think you are bipolar and want to medicate you. YOU start to think you are crazy. My aunties surrounded me with white light and taught me how to protect myself even more than I did as a child. They taught me I was most certainly not crazy and that I was simply gifted. I learned from them to get my feet in either dirt or water – to allow the earth to be my anti-anxiety medication. I learned what stones to carry in a pouch. I learned about the cleansing properties of salts. They taught me about crystal grids, sage, and poultices. I learned about the phases of the moons – and which ones would be worse for me so that I could prepare in advance. They taught me all I needed to know to learn my place in working with the other side and I appreciate it so much. I truly miss them!
Do you have a funny story about them?
Well, my oldest son Chris, had asthma pretty badly and I went to my aunt to take care of it. She told me to go into the back yard to the big oak tree and find a limb that was exactly his height. I was to cut it down and wait for her. Chris, who was about 4 at the time, and I headed out to find our limb. Just as I was working on getting the appropriate sized limb down, I noticed my Aunt Hazel coming toward my sweet son with a big old pair of scissors! I jumped down out of the tree and ran over just as she snatched up a big hank of his beautiful blonde hair right above his left ear. “What are you doing?” I yelped. “Taking care of the boys asthma. That’s what ya want me to do ain’t it?” I had visions of Van Gogh running through my head. Did she have to cut off part of his ear? Cut his neck just a bit? Nick him for some blood? “Uh, what are you going to cut? Will it hurt? Is he going to bleed?” I was panicking! “Oh for Pete’s sake! Stop worrying! Buck up you!” And she snipped the scissors! I almost fainted – until I realized it was just a lock of hair! She then grabbed the limb that I had cut, made some adjustments to it, took Chris’s hand and walked him over to the tree. She knelt down and whispered something in his ear, put the limb facing outward at the base of the tree with Chris laying beside it. She dug a hole at the end of the stick and buried the lock of hair there. She had Chris take the stick home with us and said when he grew taller than the stick, the asthma would be gone. And, a few short months later, it was!
She scared the Bejesus out of me that day but cured my son!
What do you kids think about your gifts?
My kids each have gifts – though they prefer NOT to either acknowledge or use them at this time 🙂 Chris, my oldest, actually had a dream 8 months prior – that my dad was going to pass and that he was to come down from Canada so that dad could get permission from him to go to the other side. It happened just that way this May 29th. Kelly, my daughter, is an Empath and dreams but does not enjoy the “gifts” so uses them only when absolutely necessary! Peabo, my youngest son, is a truly gifted healer, automatic writer, psychometrist and clairvoyant. Some day I feel he may step into my shoes, but for now he is following his path in the acting industry. My grandkids are all gifted as well….one in particular is amazing in her abilities! I am not sure where they will lead her but for now, she simply amazes me!
Do you have a story about your significant other?
While out on a date at the beginning of the relationship with my now significant other, we were having a nice dinner at an Italian Restaurant and getting to know each other. Suddenly, I noticed 3 singers dressed in period costumes serenading the patrons of the restaurant. They were very talented and I turned to express my enjoyment to my date. Much to my surprise, my date looked quizzically at me and said, “What singers? There are no singers in here anywhere. Is there more in that glass besides wine?” I glanced over and watched as “the entertainment” faded into misty apparitions and disappeared. My date teased me quite a bit about the invisible entertainment but hung around… I still see the singers whenever we go there. I’ve even had the chance to “talk” with them and “get their stories”.
Tell us about a day in your life as a psychic.
A day in my life as a psychic is so different every day! So let me tell you about last Friday. My day began at 4:18 AM as I was yanked awake by a prophetic dream about my granddaughter. Since I have asked my Guides to take my dreams unless they are necessary because I talk to the other side all day and to do it all night is too much, I pay attention to them when they come! I quickly texted my son in Canada to let him know what had come through.
Since the folks on the other side saw an opening, they decided to go ahead and give me messages for my clients for that day. I pulled out my yellow legal pad, which is never far from my reach, and began to write. As I wrote each clients name at the top of the page, Spirit would give me messages about them. Messages can include health, career, family, life path, crossed overs, etc. After writing all my messages, I do my form of ADHD meditation…lol!
Then I eat breakfast and start my day in earnest. I began with a 1 hour phone session to Canada followed by another to Colorado. After these 2 sessions I have a sweet elderly gentleman that is still “hanging around” who announces that he “knows he is early but he is anxious to speak with his wife.” He is sweet and doesn’t suck up too much energy so I just let him hang out with me.
Next – I spend half and hour speaking with a private investigator about a missing persons case that he has been working for a while. I do this work pro-bono and just hope that I can help bring some kind of closure to the family.
Then it is time to go to the office. My office is at a spa and I had bartered a reading for a massage – so for the next 1/2 hour I get to breathe a bit. But as soon as the masseuse touches me, I start to read her 🙂 I gotta learn to turn it off!
After my massage, I head out to do a house cleansing. The house has several heavy energies in it including one very aggressive one. I sage the house and use prayers and salt to clear the negativity out. The aggressive energy keeps trying to make me believe that I am afraid of it. I’m not. I have only goodness and light on my side!
I grab a late lunch on the way back to the office and prepare to start my afternoon in-person readings. When I walk in my office, the elderly gentleman that has been hanging with me all day becomes very excited. ” My wife is next,” he tells me. “She is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen! You have to tell her that!” The moment my client gets there, I tell her that her husband is there and that she is the most beautiful woman he ever saw….she gasps! “That is what he always said to me!”
He continued to give me messages and we spoke of her health and her new life – but he kept coming back to how beautiful she was. She was in her 70’s and I must agree with him – she is beautiful still!
One more reading and I can go home for the day. In walks a lovely couple. The reading starts with the young lady’s grandmother coming through. She soon has her granddaughter in tears with her loving presence. The reading then takes a business turn which is what the man wanted. We discussed their new business venture and the successes that I saw coming for them. We were wrapping things up when a beautiful child stepped through and said, “Please tell my daddy that I have his eyes.” I had not expected anyone else to come through…but I just repeated what I heard and described who I saw. The child looked to be about 3 or 4. The father immediately burst into tears and the mother smiled beautifully. She said “that is our son. He passed at birth. But he did have his fathers eyes.” I looked at the young man more closely and noticed that he had the most exquisite green eyes I had ever seen. We ended the reading, and my day, on that beautiful note from a lovely little boy.
What’s the funniest thing a spirit ever said to you?
I was taking a bath one morning, I love to go underwater and just relax – when I came up and opened my eyes, there was a woman standing there naked from the waist up with her breasts in her hands and a big smile on her face! I was a bit shocked as I thought at first it was a live person not a spirit. I blinked a couple of times and she simply looked at me and said “Look at these! They are all mine. Nice huh?” Well, what do you say to that? I simply said,”Well, yes they are.” It turned out she was to be part of a reading later that day. She had passed of breast cancer and had lost one breast totally and was proud to have them both back!
Did anyone EVER find the money grandpa stashed?
Nope, and I reckon we won’t until he’s good and ready for us to…he was stubborn in life and remains so in death! 🙂
Thank you Shelia for taking the time to answer my questions!
