The Hootenanny is Coming!

Hootenanny.2014Yes, folks, we here at Women and Words are gearing up for The Hootenanny. For those of you new to our blog, you can check out past Hootenannies HERE. Or HERE. Or even HERE.

For those of you who can’t be bothered to click the link (like me), here’s the run down.

The Hootenanny is a twelve-day book giveaway event. Authors and publishers contribute their work and we give away anywhere from 8-15 books a day. It’s super simple to enter. We post the books up for grabs that day in the morning, folks leave a comment, and we draw the winners that night at 10pm EST. Supah easy. There are official rules and stuff, but we’ll post those when we get closer to the event.

This year, we wanted to give readers a chance to help us during the recruitment stage. We want to know who you all would like to see included in the list of participating authors. We know that authors are readers, too, so feel free to nominate other authors. This is not a call for authors who would like to contribute, but rather we want to know who readers want to see included, so please don’t nominate yourself.

Let’s hear it readers! Who do you want included in this year’s Hootenanny? Please include indie authors we may not know about! Thanks!

  1. Andi, didn’t we give away some audiobooks last year from Dog Ear Audio? I know we have in the past, maybe just not as a part of The Hootenanny.

Thanks, Henriette, we’ll look into it. Excellent idea.

  6. For the final day, grand prize, big elfaroni blowout prize: how about a complete series??? Also, how about for some of the days instead of just posting a comment you have to write a creative jingle or some other joyous task you awesome elves devise??? Oh wait a minute…did you want thoughts and suggestions for the
Hootenanny or just suggested authors? Oops…my bad!!! Muha hahaha… 🙂

  7. Do you only do fiction or do you do poetry as well? What about some of the trailblazers of women’s writings? What about Chrystos, Becky Birtha, Audre Lorde (I would be willing to purchase a new copy of one of her books and donate it, since she’s dead now and can’t donate herself), Elana Dykewoman, some of the other writers who really would be an introduction for many of our generation’s readers? And some who might have been heard of before like Dorothy Allison and Jewel Gomez? Oh, and I love Carla Trujillo!

  8. I want to see everyone included in the hootenanny…seriously! The past two years I’ve entered, thinking how great it would be to win something from one of my favorite authors. Both years I have instead won something from an author I hadn’t read before and found wonderful new treasures! 🙂

  9. How about T.B. Markinson or Stephanie Kusiak? I like both and Kim Baldwin, Linda Kay Silva, Jae, etc. I like all of these authors.

  10. It’s hard to even KNOW the names of some indie authors when what/who I find to purchase at the one independent bookstore we have or at the public library are from the bigger publishing houses. But, how ’bout British authors Clare Lydon (“London Calling”) and Clare Ashton (“That Certain Something”). I special ordered their novels, both are good! Any newbie, indie you put in is great, it gives me (and others) the much-needed exposure. I liked the publishing houses’ give-away of ‘pick any book in our catalog’ last year, it gave us new authors AND new (or lesser known) publishers. I like the whole series idea, is that too greedy? I LOVE Hootenanny! Can’t WAIT!
