And How Was YOUR Holiday?

Well, another Memorial Day weekend has come and gone. For those of you not in the U.S., Memorial Day is a holiday that falls on the last Monday of May, and commemorates those who have died in military service. And because it’s a day off from work, people tend to have barbecues, go to the beach, or go away on little mini vacations. It’s the weekend that kicks off the summer season. Amusement parks open up their doors and the jingly tunes of ice cream trucks can be heard in the neighborhood. Aside from the somber reason for the holiday itself, it’s generally considered a fun weekend.

It was not so for me. In fact, I can probably say that this was one of the worst Memorial Day weekends of my life. Last week (including this past Monday, Memorial Day) was an incredibly stressful one for me. Between having a parent in the hospital, a fresh argument with my neighbor, dealing with a stalker, and complete physical and mental exhaustion, my stress level has gone through the roof and my intestines have been in knots. And forget about getting any work done.

So far, this week has been a better one. My father is showing tiny signs of improvement, I surprised myself by remaining calm with my deranged neighbor (there’s a long history of animosity there), the weather has finally decided to be spring (summer??), and I’m gearing up for the Lambda Literary Awards ceremony on Monday night.

That, of course, is a whole other area of nervous-making. It should be a really exciting evening, though, one that I may possibly never experience again. The highlights of this year’s ceremony are below, and I’ll fill you all in afterward. In the meantime, I hope to get a few things done so that I can enjoy my summer.

Keep your fingers crossed for All You Can Eat, a finalist in the erotica category. Our good friend (and contributing writer to AYCE), Cheyenne Blue, is also a finalist in the same category for her anthology Forbidden Fruit. So, if Andi and I don’t win, I hope you win, Cheyenne! 🙂
