A little housekeeping

Hi, friends!

Every once in a while we here at Women and Words post a bit about how this here blog works and how to get on board and how to contact us or whatever. This is one of those times.

How to be a guest blogger at Women and Words
OMG this is SO SCARY HARD (hee hee). If you’d like to be a guest blogger with us, all you have to do is contact either Jove or me (Andi). Some of you have our email addresses. Drop us a line directly if you do. If you don’t have our email addresses and you don’t know who we are, that’s fine. Hit the “BE OUR GUEST” link above, fill out the little form thingie, and click submit and that comes to us and we can start getting you hooked up.

If you don’t know who we are or what we do, hit the “ABOUT” link above. That’ll give you an idea of what sorts of things go on in this here circus.

We tend to be blogger driven, which means we have a regular cast of thousands that blogs with us in addition to our guest bloggers. We are not a review site; we made that decision a while ago. So we do not post reviews and we do not simply post a synopsis of a book and a link to it. We prefer that the author come on here and talk about their latest works rather than us simply posting information about a book. We thought readers of the blog would enjoy learning something about the people behind the books.

What to do if we screw up and don’t get your blog up on the appointed day
The primary admins here are Jove Belle and Andi Marquette (moi). Both of us have day jobs and lives and random crazy going on all the time. Women and Words is completely volunteer. We love it, we love doing it, we love that you seem to love it. Every once in a while, though, we do screw up and we totally space posting a blog on an appointed day or we didn’t do something right in the dashboard control thingie. I’m proud to say that it doesn’t happen often, but it does.

If you’re an author whose blog was supposed to post on a specific day and it’s not up by 10 AM EST, PLEASE CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY so we can fix that situation. We don’t always check the blog first thing in the morning to make sure something posted. Sometimes we forget to load the blog. Sometimes we forget to schedule it for automatic posting. Sometimes we forget to click “schedule” in the admin page when we’re selecting the date and time of posting and it won’t post. It’s usually really easy to fix and we will get that pup up and running ASAP after you let us know.

In other words, DON’T WAIT until a few days after the fact and then yell at us because we didn’t post your blog. PLEASE contact us immediately — the day your blog was supposed to go up in the morning — so we can get in there and rectify the problem. Generally, when we forget to post a blog, it’s not because we hate you or we just don’t feel like letting you know. It’s because we forgot or something didn’t load right and we’re not aware of it. It’s never deliberate, and the sooner you drop us a line and let us know something’s freaky, the sooner we can fix that.

How to contact us for other random questions
Hit the “CONTACT” link above. Ta-da! Easy peasy. We can generally answer whatever questions you have that are Women and Words-related there. We cannot, however, help you find a new apartment, dog groomer, kitty salon, financial advisor, lawyer, or date. But hey, we’ll be glad to chat about those things if you just want to reach out. 🙂

New Releases and Coming Up Page
If you hit the New Releases and Coming up page above, you’ll get a list of the coming month’s books in the world of lesfic land and beyond, the current month’s list, and the previous month’s list. We try to post these on the blog the first or second Friday of each month. So if you have a book coming out in a particular month, let us know so we can get you on those lists.

Free Short Stories
We keep a list of those we know about at that link. HIT IT to see. And if you know of any others, drop us a line so we can include it.

Calls for Submissions
We keep a blog archive of these, too, at the link above. But if you know of any that we haven’t caught, drop us a line.

And, currently, you can also purchase a Women and Words T-shirt (see the link above?). Our present benefactor for proceeds is the Golden Crown Literary Society.

And finally, for those not in the know, Women and Words has a rep for putting on a giant-ass crazy blow-out Oh no they di’n’t holiday book giveaway every December. We call it The Hootenanny and it kicks off the 12th and runs through the 23rd of December. It involves TONS of authors, books, and publishers. Giveaways all day every day for 12 days. Do a search on “Hootenanny” here on the blog and you’ll get an idea of the nutty that goes into that. We start prepping for it around September/October, so stay tuned!

There you go. If you have further questions, drop us a line at the “Contact” link above.

Happy weekend and thanks for all your support.

  1. Thanks Andi – love these blogs. I follow them all. You probably already know this, but Affinity always does a free holiday short story compilation. Contact Irish Eyes because they may want to be part of the hootenanny.

    1. Annette – Thanks! Affinity has, if I remember correctly, participated in the Hootenanny before. Shooting from the hip here, because looking it up requires more focus than I have today, but I believe they did a book a day last year. Or something along those lines.

  2. Andi! This post is awesome! Thank you for putting all of the stuff together so our Women and Words peeps know what is what! And that stuff is super easy and we aren’t really very scary! Unless we wake up on the wrong side of the bed, of course 🙂

    1. lol, speak for yourself! I do my very best to be as scary as possible. Or not. No, okay, not. Sigh. But you have to stop telling people that I’m nice. It’s messing with my image. 🙂

  3. Andi! This is why you rock so hard! Thanks for posting this.

I second everything above. All the women associated with our blog do it as a labor of love. And some times (rarely), the labor ranks a little higher than the love. But most of the time, it’s balanced well on the side of love. You all are awesome! And we’re going to stick around and do it for as long as we can, for as long as you want us to. 🙂
