Hootenanny 2015 — Day 6

day6Well, lookit you, my partridges in a pear tree! YOU MADE IT to the halfway point! I always worry that we lose a few along the way, because this here house party just doesn’t stop and it can get a little crazy. Last year, we found 3 reindeer, 5 elves, and a few neighbors in the snowbank out front. It was fine. We check those regularly when the Hootenanny’s on–OMG, Vixen! Are you kidding me? The table is not for drag shows! The elves built the runway in the living room for that! We need the table for the books! And has anybody seen Tucker? Where the heck did he go for supplies? Somebody text him!

SRSLY, Tucker? Supplies from THERE? We are not that kind of party house!
SRSLY, Tucker? Supplies from THERE? We are not that kind of party house!

Where was I? THANK YOU! That’s where. THANK YOU SO MUCH to all the authors and publishers who put oodles of books and other stuff up this year to help put a little joy n’ tinsel in your December. And thanks to you, the readers, who stick with us throughout the year and who support this community and the industries and authors within it. We love it when you’re here, and we love sharing the luv. And Jove, WE ARE SO IN LUV WITH YOUR BANNERS. You are the AWESOME.

And many thanks to colleague and fellow Women and Wordster R.G. Emanuelle for helping get Tucker’s photos just right. You know how he is.

Anyway, remember: every day is a new book drawing, so for you to be considered for each day’s drawing, you must enter every day. So easy to do it. All you have to do is leave a comment below and include your email address in the comment fill-out form (the elves keep it safe!). Do NOT put it in the comment body because skanky spambots from the dark reaches of Mordor will suck it right up.

We close the drawing at 10 PM EST US every day (world clock) after which we draw the winners. We then notify winners via email and we post the names here on the blog. If you see your name on the blog but you don’t have an email from us, check your spam filter. Books go to winners in the order they’re drawn. The first book on the list goes to the first person drawn, the second to the second, and so on. That helps us stay reasonably organized.

AUTHORS AND PUBLISHERS, if your book is included below, please do not enter the drawing. I mean, you’ve probably already read your own book, so why would you want to win it? Let’s stay festive! And we specify where an author or publisher will send a paperback. If there’s no specification, that means they’ll send it anywhere.

Don’t forget! We’ve got goodies over at Rafflecopter, too! That’s a whole separate drawing and you only need to enter once for the whole Hootenanny. Drawing for this closes the same time as the Hootenanny, on the last day (the 23rd) at 10 PM EST US. So if you haven’t yet, click on the reindeer below:

SANDRA MORAN – Winner Abbey S

Award-winning author, professor, and joyful spirit Sandra Moran never met a stranger. To know her was to love her, and to read her work was to love her, too. Sandra was diagnosed with a horrific cancer in October 2015. She left this world on November 7th at the age of 46. In honor of her contributions to literature and to the communities in which she lived and worked, Bedazzled Ink Publishing is offering another set of Sandra’s books to a winner, EBOOK or PAPERBACK (US only). Those include Letters Never Sent, Nudge, The Addendum, All We Lack, and State of Grace (this one’s available spring, 2016 — don’t worry, BI will keep you on file).

DEJAY – Winners Tammy, Tena Appel, and Suewe

THREE WINNERS ALERT! DeJay has 3 EBOOKS of Strangers for three lucky winners. Here, Justina was beaten and thrown out of her house when she was 13 after a friend outed her. Thirty years later, she’s finally found a bit of peace, building a life for herself. Victoria works with DCS, and she’s trying to convince Justina to open her life and home to two young strangers, Jesse, who is also struggling with her sexual identity, and her younger sister Brianna. DeJay isn’t afraid to tackle tough issues and Strangers is no exception. You might need tissues.

Elaine has one PAPERBACK (US only) of Wishbone for the winner. It’s 2004, the year same-sex marriage becomes legal in Massachusetts, the year the Red Sox break the curse, and the year everything changes for Meg Myers. Meg is an animal control officer who doesn’t much like people and doesn’t believe wishes come true. She grew up in state care, bouncing between foster homes and her alcoholic mother. Through her relationships with three women, Meg is forced to explore mother-daughter bonds, loss and grief, and what defines friendship and gender in her quest to find security and love for the first time in her life. Hope you win!

I. BEACHAM – Winner piscesmoon2u

There’s a PAPERBACK (US or UK only) up for grabs of I. Beacham’s Sanctuary tells the story of high-power fashion executive Cate Clanton, whose one goal is to crush her professional rival, Dita Newton. Except deep in the ruthless businesswoman’s heart is an attraction to Dita. Uh-oh. Sounds like sparks AND fireworks. Hope you win!

CHERI CRYSTAL – Winner susan hutchins

Cheri has an EBOOK for one of you groovy people of her novel, Across the Pond. Dig into this romance! After having been betrayed by her partner of thirteen years, Janalyn isn’t looking for another relationship, especially not one separated by miles of ocean. But when she goes to England for a conference and meets Robyn, she’s shocked at her attraction. Can she and Robyn find a common ground upon which to make a life together? Will Janalyn throw caution to the wind and risk her heart again? If Janalyn does indeed venture across the pond, will love be her life preserver? Guess you’d better win to find out…

ISABELLA – Winner Tina Coba

Isabella joins us this year and she’s offering a winner’s choice of any one of her books, EBOOK format. Will it be something from the Scarlet series? Perhaps her Yakuza or Executive series? Or maybe you’d prefer the Faithful series or a standalone? Hit the links to see what strikes your fancy.

When Win Kirkland left the Marine Corps Intelligence Agency after twenty-five years, she thought she’d left war behind. But a sniper’s shot through her front window soon ends the tranquility she’d been seeking. It also brings Sheriff Sarah Barrow Pitt — her one time best friend — back into her life. As evils of the past and present threaten to engulf them both, admitting to their feelings might just pose the most dangerous risk of all.

  1. Congratulations to the winners so far. I’m still hangin around adding books and authors to add my list of need to read. And hoping, just maybe, Tucker might pick me at some point😀.

  2. AbFab list of books and authors again today!
Just want to mention that I think it’s awesome that Bedazzled Ink is offering another set of Sandra’s book in honor of her work! I haven’t read her books yet, but most certainly will soon

  3. Many thanks to BI for offering what Sandra would have gladly done (at least twice… no, wait… there are always three! ;)) were she still among us. 🙂

  4. “There’s sumpin stuck up in the chimney and it doesn’t move around”. Called the Rescue Elves who hooked up a tripod and pulled up a Santa impostor (since it isn’t Christmas Eve we assume this jack leg has to be a fake). We invited the crew down for some nog- they had to have it without the moonshine since they were on duty. BUT since I helped with the rescue I took a chance that the impostor might know Santa and asked him to put in a good word for me to win some books! Fingers crossed! Happy Hootenanny!

    • NO SUCKING! Well, I guess some sucking is okay, depending on the context. 😉

But no sucking the fun or the life out of you. The Hootenanny is designed to make you want and have lots of eggnog, pizza, and happy fun time. At least temporarily.

  11. And happily the hootenanny wackiness continues. I really love the new and improved carols. And picturing Santa’s reindeer putting on a drag show had me chuckling. 🙂 Today’s selections look pretty dang impressive. I’ve been Merry Christmasing myself thanks to the new books and authors you’ve introduced me to. Picked up a copy of Backcast yesterday and now I’m headed to Amazon for a copy of Struck cuz who doesn’t want to read about Titanic with lesbians?? Thanks to all involved. Happy holidays and Merry Christmas to all.

  12. Thank you, everyone at Women and Words, for all that you do to keep this community informed about great authors and great books, for the time you take to teach us through your experiences, and for making this community so much dang fun!

  13. halfway to xmas – here hoping all the helping elves are having enough eggnog to get through 6 more days. great books again (was there ever a question about that?). thanks to everyone putting time into hootenanny!

  14. Amazing that there are so many more publishers and books available than there were even 20 years ago! I’d have to save the lesbian novels so I’d have a lesbian book to read every few months, and now I can read lesbian novels all year round and have something new every single day if I want! Of course, I remember the time when I was first out, and we were lucky there was even ONE lesbian book out (“Patience and Sarah” by Isabelle Miller). So, count me in; hope I win!!!

  15. Thanks again for all you do, all of you at Women and Words and the wonderful authors and publishers that donate. This is such a special thing to do for the community but then again… I know personally exactly how wonderful this community is and how much they are there for each other, especially in times of great need! Love you all and big hugs, kara

  16. I’m so flat out excited about this here Hootenanny thingy! lol It gives people like me who are on a fixed income without the ability to purchasing the books. I would love some of the Sandra Moran Books! Thank you for doing this year after year!

  17. I’d like to wish you all,
    A happy half way day,
    Especially to those of you,
Who have won a book this way.

I’ve never won a flippin’ thing,
Maybe one day I’ll get it right,
Til then I’ll just keep on trying,
    Happily reading this website.

Tonight I’ll dream of winning books,
And maybe one day I really will do!
For now it’s just a dream,
So good luck to all of you, too!

A crappy poem made up on the spot just for Hootenanny… How special you are!
