The Girls of Summer

Where has this summer gone? Before you know it, there’ll be a total eclipse and then Labor Day weekend, and Fall will be upon us. I’ve been spending my summer days finishing up edits for my December release, A More Perfect Union, and putting together proposals for some 2019 titles. My titles for 2018 are already locked in because I may be a pantster when I write, but I’m a uber planner when it comes to the business side of publishing 🙂

One of the highlights of the summer was the Golden Crown Literary Society Conference in Chicago. If you haven’t attended this conference before, I urge you to put it on your must-do list for next year. Where else can you enjoy five days of readings, panels, and social events all centered around the books we love? Registration just opened for the 2018 conference and you can even take advantage of a monthly payment plan for a full access pass.

And this week I celebrate the release of my 17th novel, Sidebar:

SidebarJudge Camille Avery, newly appointed to the federal court, is finally back on her dream career path. She’s determined not to let any mistakes, past or future, get in her way, but a complex murder case and undeniable attraction to her rebellious law clerk threaten Camille’s carefully planned future at every turn.

Attorney West Fallon is a social justice crusader, reluctant to put her career plans on hold to clerk for a federal judge, even if the judge is the man who saved her life. When he’s suddenly forced to retire, West is stuck clerking for Judge Camille Avery, an infuriatingly stubborn—okay, brilliant, intense, and sexy—law-and-order jurist who seems just as unhappy to be saddled with her.

As Camille and West explore their growing desire and challenge the boundaries of their work and personal relationships, a big case threatens to destroy both their careers. Can their love survive?

And that pretty much sums up for my summer so far. What have you been up to? Leave a comment below about your summer fun for a chance to win an autographed copy of Sidebar (ebook only for non US residents). I’ll draw a name on Sunday and post the name of the winner in the comments.

  1. This summer has been filled with very little reading, if any at all. My wife and I have been going through a whirlwind of preparation to move to the north woods of Wisconsin. Between downsizing, packing, and working on the new place we are moving to, there has been so very little time to enjoy the hundreds of books on our reading lists. The move is, all at once, exciting and terrifying, but extremely sucky for getting in our reading fix. Looking forward to lazier days in a month or so when the move and construction are finally over, and I can settle down in my comfy chair, with a cat in my lap, a good cup of tea on the table, and good book in my hands. Maybe even a brand new, shiny, signed copy of a Carsen Taite book! What could be better?

  2. Having a great summer. GCLS, Melissa Etheridge at the Fillmore, vacay to Hilton Head, Bette Midler on Broadway and much more to come.

  3. It’s been an overly hot summer so staying indoors has been a necessity. On the upside it means more reading and doing my travels and having adventures in great books. Without Justice was among those adventures in reading so far. Looking forward to reading your latest. Congrats on its publication. 🙂

  7. Well, it’s winter here in Australia so I’ve been spending my time trying to stay warm and dry. Doing lots of reading in front of the fire and snuggling up to a good romance in bed. Doing lots of sleeping in too. I am looking to buy a new home so I’ve also been trawling the classifieds and internet looking at houses for sale.

  8. Carsen, you are a beast for planning ahead of time. I usually only know the next book I’m writing, and sometimes not even that! I bow to your amazing publication prowess.
As far as my summer? It’s been filled with kid stuff. Kid swim lessons. Kid business ventures. Kid travel arrangements. Oh, and the book I released (second in a romance series, woo!), and the first draft I finished (third in a trilogy I’ve been working on way too long). So, I guess you could say my summer has been busy?

  10. This summer my wife and I celebrated 21 years together, watched our 17 yro graduate high school, paid college tuition (OMG), took the inaugural trip in the school bus we converted into an RV and are still shopping for a new home. Our life has never been fuller! BTW, I have all of your books including this one, but only ebooks. It would be so cool to have a book signed by you!

  13. This summer I’ve been juggling learning a new position at work with trying to survive the unrelenting heat this summer and keeping all the ants from invading my house. On the plus side I got to attend my first Pride (I KNOW), saw Wonder Woman AND Atomic Blonde, and am starting to enjoy experimenting with AirBnBs in different areas. It’s been quite a busy (and HOT) summer!

  20. Oi, my summer has been filled with many things. I signed 8 publishing contracts over the past 2 months, cleaning out all my completed works to date. I just finished writing the 8th novel last month and I’m 2/3 through writing the 9th. I’m living in DIY hell at home right now, repainting, decorating rooms, building furniture, pulling up retaining walls and fire pits. If I make it alive to fall I’ll gladly get back in the reading saddle again!
