No, this blog is not about that.
This is my first blog since the release of my novel The Potion, and although it’s not my first novel, it is a bucketful of firsts for me. I’ll tick them off.
- It’s my first book with Dirt Road Books. Unlike previous times, I am the publisher. When you’re your own publisher, it sets up a whole new level of pride in your book.
- This is the first time that copies of my book went to advance reviewers. I didn’t know how this would go down, but I was pleasantly surprised at the feedback.
- The amount of feedback–With previous publications, it was difficult getting people to leave reviews. This time, readers have been so generous in leaving reviews.
- This was the first time I worked with Gill McKnight as my developmental editor. It was quite an interesting experience, and the book is better for it. (By the way, Gill’s book Little Dip, is a Golden Crown award finalist).
There were other firsts as well, but I won’t mention those, since they’re somewhat personal. But all of these firsts are truly making me feel like this is actually my first book.
It’s kind of weird. It’s almost as if I’ve taken on a new identity. Maybe I have. Maybe I’ve shed the skin I’ve been wearing and have grown a new one. I wonder if my old identity and new identity are going to meld. Or maybe this schism will result in complete obliteration of my old identity. I’ll find out in time.
But for now, I’m really enjoying the positive feedback I’ve been getting on The Potion. My previous works were so low-key that they barely made a ripple when they hit the water.
And that’s another first. Hopefully, that will be a regular thing with my new skin.
My question, though, is this: Is there some way I can get a new identity that involves a mask, a cape, and a cat suit? Just PM me if you know how I can make that happen. Thanks.
Congratulations, R.g! Wishing you best of luck and much success in your new skin as writer and publisher!
