Tell Me Something Good

Snow and MasonWith all the crazy happenings in the world, I’ve started trying to filter out things that bring me down, and spend more time focused on what’s good in the world like my catboys, Mason and Edgar Allen Snow. It’s hard since I’m a news junkie who routinely devours current events from all angles, but I can already feel the effects of allowing less negative energy into my space.

I’ve also started to make a point of keeping notes about things I hear that inspire me and make me smile. Sometimes I jot these positive nuggets down in a notebook or save them to my desktop or phone so I can pull them up when life is dark and stormy, or maybe even just mundane.

Today’s nugget of positivity comes from my wife, Lainey’s Instagram post: “Empower yourself by taking the first step.” She wasn’t talking to me directly (at least I don’t think so), but the message really resonated today, when I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with my to-do list. After reading her post, I took a deep breath and started crossing things off the list, feeling renewed momentum as I worked my way through, one task at a time. Lainey’s posts are all inspiring and you can follow her on Instagram – her handle is stargardencottage, but today I’m inviting you all to chime in with a positive nugget of your own. It can be a good thing that happened to you, a favorite saying, or a shout out to  someone special – whatever you want. And, if pure positivity isn’t enough of a motive to participate, I’m adding some free audiobooks to the mix. On Sunday, I’ll draw four names from the comments and the winners will have their choice of an audiobook copy of Above the Law or Love’s Verdict. So, let’s get these good vibes going!

  1. What a wonderful blog for a busy day I want to leave you with my favorite quote, Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

  2. Here were my words of wisdom for today , posted on FB, that I stole from some other random post:
    1) drink your coffee
    2) stay focused and positive
    3) don’t freak out
    4) remember, stabbing people is wrong
    5) are you wearing pants?

  3. Well, my 5 year old nephew told me today:

“Don’t worry so much. Just play the game.”

Sure, he was referencing me complaining about my disappearing platformer game skills—we were playing Kirby All Stars on the Nintendo Switch—but, I’d like to think it was sage advice about rocking life, in general.

  5. Thanks for the positivity, Carson! When I’m feeling pressure, distracted, harassed, under the thumb of ‘the man’, I remember to laugh. Yep, that simple. I find a scene of a show or movie that makes me laugh out loud to watch on YouTube, or take the time to put on a DVD and laugh until I cry with Harvey, or Arsenic and Old Lace.
It reminds me to choose to be happy.

current events can be so mindblowingly infuriating, even among professed “news junkies”

  7. My bit of positivity is my new puppy, Ellie! She has brightened my life so much! After my fourth back surgery, I was tired of sitting & mildewing! My cousin’s dog had a litter of pups, knowing the Mom & Pop helped make my decision to get a puppy easier, so I became a fur baby parent!! She gets me up & moving now, which has helped get me out of my funk!

  8. After having to leave my last job due to ill health, i started a new job in a totally different field. Today I passed my first exam in my training and actually got 11 out of 10 as I spotted an error in the surgical instruments being sent out for a surgery. Made me smile and feel better than I have done in months.

  9. I always say to myself that there is time and place for everything. What I dream of it will happen sooner or later. Might not be exact but end result is same. All in all, good things come to those who wait or a patient, or both😁

  10. I’m too impatient to be all zen (“This too shall pass”), but I have used a similar motto for years now. “Things have a way of working out.” True, some things might need a nudge (or even a shove!) in the right direction, but they will work out eventually.
