but realizes she might actually be high.
Hold on there, friends. Let me…get ready here…
AH! There we go.
So what the hell is this NNWM, you ask. Ah. It is, dear readers, “National Novel Writing Month,” affectionately known as NaNoWriMo (poetic, yes?) and it happens every November and it’s basically WRITE A NOVEL IN A MONTH. In NaNo parlance, that’s 50,000 words.
Jove and I have been talking about it quite a bit on the Women and Words podcast (did you know we had one? Why YES! WE DO!) and on the Dirt Road Books podcast (we have one of those, too!!! OMG!) because DRB is doing its second NaNoWriMo Challenge.
What that means, friends, is that a few of us at DRB signed up over at NaNoWriMo and we created an official-like DRB event currently pinned on the DRB Facebook page so others can sign up to participate with us. We then focus on all things writerly at the DRB Facebook page all November, including posting a writing tip every day and having write-ins for an hour or two on weekends, usually Saturdays.
We also encourage commiseration, comments, and questions on the DRB main Facebook page throughout November.
If you sign up with DRB, the challenge part is thus: get your manuscript hammered out with NaNoWriMo (that is, complete the recommended word count), then we give you about a month to get it cleaned up and we at DRB will do a beta read/assessment of it for you. Basically, you’ll be going through a dummy submissions process as you prepare your manuscript, and then we give you feedback.
ANYWAY! So here’s the thing.
If you’re doing NaNoWriMo this year, buddy up with me! And Jove! And R.G. Emanuelle! And our DRB colleague Michelle Teichman! We’re all doing it, and if you want some writing buddies, hit us up on the NaNo site and hey, why not hang out with DRB over on Facebook? We’re all about the writing and the NaNo-ing and all of that and we’re a merry band of travelers, so join us! We’d love to have you along!
And what is Andi writing this year?
Fine! I’ll tell you.
Urban fantasy. It involves witches, a race against time, snark, and things like fae and goblins and maybe demons and the like. Sort of like if the characters from Wynonna Earp went bar-hopping with Buffy and the guys from Supernatural.
That’s what I’m going for, anyway. Guess we’ll find out if it works. LOL
Anyway, here’s a VERY SMALL TEASER for you to ponder kthx
Halfway through the bourbon, her nerve endings prickled as she caught the scent of something she really hoped wasn’t what she thought it was. Something faint, barely riding the air currents moving beneath the overhead fans, but just strong enough that it reached her. She sat, waiting for another whiff to rule out cologne. Nope. Definitely not cologne. Honeysuckle grafted over a faint tang of metal.
She sighed. Witch.
OH NOEZ WHAT IS HAPPENING.
Guess we’ll find out, if I can get this NaNo project off the ground.
So c’mon down. Buddy up. Let’s do this writing thang together and save Andi from herself.
Happy Friday and may The Force be with you.
