It’s been a minute, I know. December was really scary busy and January ended up being busy, too, because I had to do some traveling and of course brought cooties back from Dallas (ugh, Dallas, why do you hate me so?) and it took me a good two weeks to get to the point where I didn’t feel like I’d been jumped in an alley by a pissed-off horse that kicked me all over the place.
So I was thinking about how the new year always makes people do those “resolution” things and as I’ve said many times, I don’t do resolutions. I set 2-3 realistic goals for the year that I need to take care of and I work toward those.
Sometimes the goals are small (like, finish up a re-write of something) and sometimes they’re big (like, adulting shit), but as long as I’m working toward finishing them or bringing them to some kind of resolution, I feel good about them.
This year’s goals include:
1. Adulting shit. That means getting things like my will in order and making sure important paperwork is organized and can be readily found.
I know, that’s kinda morbid but jfc people, better to have that shit in order and good to go and not need it than the alternative. And as we age, guess what? We start losing family, friends, and acquaintances even more, and it makes you really think about things and not take anything for granted. Although I lost people when I was fresh out of high school (lost 3 of my classmates to vehicular accidents within about 3 years of graduating), but still. I just recently lost two more of my high school classmates — and I graduated in, like, a class of 80, so we all knew each other. Some of them I had gone to grade school with.
Point being, even if you’re young, if you have family (born or made), think about making things easy on them if something goes sideways for you.
Also, I’m really big into using my planners much more efficiently and so far, I’ve been really sticking to that, so…go me!
2. Writing projects. I’ve got a couple of fanfic projects I want to finish and I want to get at least two of my back titles back into print this year. I haven’t really had time to write for the past 3 months, but I don’t beat myself up about that because sometimes things come up and I’ve got to deal with them, y’know? So I’ve got some writing projects lined up and I’m working on that, too.
3. See-krit project. I’m not EVEN going to tell you what this is, but it’s something that’s been on my mind for a couple of years and this year I’m going to get some infrastructure in place and see where we can go with it. I’ll let you know if I’m successful in that. LOL
Anyway — goals, friends. Plans. Projects for the new year. I don’t like “resolutions” because invariably people get disappointed. So how about thinking about “projects” that you’d like to engage in? That’s what I’m doing.
And whatever it is for you this year, I hope it’s AWESOME.
Happy Friday and may The Force be with you.
