RIP George Floyd. Breonna Taylor. Tamir Rice. Sandra Bland. Philando Castile RIP.
This is hardly the first time something like this has happened. It’s not the fiftieth. It’s not even the 500th. But something about this time, the wild storm of Covid-19, cell phone cameras, an orange menace in the white house, and the frustrations about racial inequity boiling over has made this possible 50,000th time of police brutality against a Black person reach up and yank the mask from the eyes of the world.
It’s sparked global conversations. It’s sparked (displays of) solidarity. And I hope it sparks lasting, positive change instead of simply pushing the racists underground where they’ll still be able to do damage.
RIP Rekia Boyd. Ahmaud Arbery. Korryn Gaines. Eric Garner. Janet Wilson RIP.
